11 Langkah Cepat Gubernur Bobby Nasution Tekan Inflasi di Sumatera Utara

JawaPos.com – The North Sumatra Provincial Government (Pemprov) is moving quickly to curb inflation, which reached 5.32% (yoy) in September 2025, the highest nationally. North Sumatra Governor Muhammad Bobby Afif Nasution emphasized that controlling inflation is a top priority for the region, given its direct impact on purchasing power and public welfare.

"This inflation isn't just a number, but reflects the pressure felt by the public on the ground. Therefore, we are taking swift and measured steps to stabilize prices, especially food prices," said Bobby Nasution in Medan after attending a virtual Inflation Control Coordination Meeting with the Ministry of Home Affairs from the North Sumatra Governor's Official Residence on Jalan Sudirman No. 41, Medan, on Monday (October 6).

Inflationary pressure in North Sumatra stems primarily from volatile food commodities such as red chilies, shallots, rice, and broiler chicken. To curb price fluctuations, the North Sumatra Provincial Government, along with the Regional Inflation Control Team (TPID), has prepared various short-term measures.

Over the next three months, the North Sumatra Provincial Government is preparing 11 rapid steps to reduce the prices of commodities that contribute most to inflation. These steps include free distribution of commodities contributing to inflation, bundling low-priced SPHP rice with red chilies, accelerating food aid programs, implementing low-cost markets, conducting trade interventions, conducting spot market inspections, monitoring food distribution, strengthening inter-regional cooperation, assigning regionally-owned enterprises (BUMD) to manage chilies and red onions, anticipating food supplies for the MBG program, and establishing inflation-monitoring stores.

Bobby Nasution emphasized that the steps taken adhere to the 4T principle: right location, right commodity, right target, and right time. "The community must truly feel the impact on the ground," Bobby emphasized.

The Governor also emphasized that market operations alone are not sufficient to address inflation. Cross-sectoral synergy is needed, including optimizing the role of regional food-owned enterprises (BUMDs) in maintaining the availability of key commodities.

The party assigned PD Aneka Industri dan Jasa (AIJ), PT Dhirga Surya, and PT Pembangunan Sumatera Utara (PPSU) to actively manage and distribute supplies of chilies, onions, and rice.

The Head of the Economic Bureau of the North Sumatra Provincial Secretariat, Poppy Marulita Hutagalung, added that in addition to taking swift action, the Provincial Government is also strengthening local food production capacity and improving the supply chain from upstream to downstream.

He explained that regional food-owned enterprises (BUMD) will be encouraged to become part of the strategic food ecosystem, collaborating with farmer groups and district/city governments to maintain supply continuity.
"This way, we want North Sumatra to be less dependent on supplies from outside the province. If production and distribution within the region are strong, prices will be more manageable," he added.

This step is also accompanied by increased coordination between the Provincial TPID, BI, BPS, Bulog, and the Food Task Force, including regular publications through press releases and press conferences to maintain effective communication with the public.
