Dilansir dari Radar Kudus (Jawa Pos Group), Kamis (1/8), lagu ‘August’ ternyata berkesinambungan dengan lagu Taylor Swift yang lain, yakni ‘Cardigan’ dan ‘Betty’.
Dalam film dokumenternya yang berjudul Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions, ia bercerita bahwa ketiga lagu tersebut saling berkaitan dengan cerita dan makna-maknanya.
Adapun ketiganya lagu tersebut berkisah tentang cinta segitiga fiktif jaman sekolah menengah, yang diambil berdasarkan sudut padang masing-masing sosoknya.
Lagu ‘August’ bercerita tentang gadis bernama Augustine, yang ternyata menjadi orang ketiga dalam hubungan sepasang kekasih lain, yang dikisahkan dalam lagu ‘Cardigan’.
Sementara ‘Cardigan’ sendiri, adalah lagu yang berisi tentang sudut pandang Betty tentang kisah cintanya bersama James, yang penuh gejolak namun berakhir bahagia.
‘August’ menjadi orang ketiga dalam hubungan mereka. Augustine nampak seperti gadis nakal, namun sebenarnya tidak. Ia hanya sangat mencintai James, namun berusaha untuk tidak memperlihatkan perasaannya.
